I am delighted to be a patron of the Weston Arts Festival and have fond memories of my involvement in the Festival way back in the 1960s as an enthusiastic (if nervous) competitor on the piano.
I have been lucky enough to enjoy a subsequent career in music as a composer and conductor, but it was the challenge and motivation of events such as the Junior Arts Festival which helped to lay the foundations for a life in music which, by its very nature, is rewarding but competitive. It is hugely important to have goals and ambitions in any walk of life, but maybe even more so when that pursuit is an artistic one, and it would be wonderful if some of today’s competitors in the Festival went on to have musical careers.
Please attend as many of the events as you can – you may be seeing the stars of the future!
